Club Studio is a non-profit creative design agency led by students and faculty from the Digital Technology and Culture department at Washington State University. We combine real-world experience with socially responsible design, specializing in print, digital, UX/UI, motion graphics, and visual marketing. Our multidisciplinary approach equips students with hands-on experience, internship credits, and the opportunity to work on projects that inspire positive social impact. Each project supports scholarship and research, advancing the future of design innovation.

Applying to Club Studio

All students who are interested in joining Club Studio will need to send in an application by the 10th week of the current semester. For example, to join the studio for Fall semester you will need to apply by the end of April of Spring semester.

All applicants must submit:

  • A letter of intent including why you want to join the studio, your qualifications, and what position(s) you are interested in
  • A link to a current portfolio (may be a website of PDF)
  • A current Resume
  • Contact info for 2 references (can be a current professor, current or previous boss, etc.)

Roles + Positions

Creative Director

The Creative Director(s) oversee the creative direction and design strategy for the studio. This role involves leading the team of designers/creatives, collaborating closely with clients, and ensuring the highest standards of creativity and quality are maintained across all projects. The Creative Directors) make executive decisions with shaping and executing design concepts from initial ideation to final production.

Lead Designer

The lead designer takes the lead on all design projects, assisting, collaborating with, and assigning tasks to the junior designers, packaging finished work for the client, and making executive decisions on design strategies. They may also take on work related to the studio website, content/marketing, and other related tasks. This position is for someone who has already worked as a junior designer and would like to advance in their work.

Intern(s)

Intern positions are for those who are in their 1st or 2nd year in the DTC program, or are still looking to grow their design/marketing experience. These positions will assist other roles in executing their work – such as helping the social media manager/content marketing specialist with content, working on graphic assets with junior/senior designers, and attending meetings/giving creative input into projects. Interns that complete 1 semester with the studio are eligible to transition into another position.

Content Marketing Specialist

The Content Marketing Specialist is in charge of all marketing related to the studio/client needs. They work closely with the social media manager to create marketing and content materials to promote the studio and grow its audience and work with the client to create a creative strategy for them. This includes the creation of a creative marketing strategy that combines visuals, language, collaborations, ways of promoting the team and their work/client and their audience, photography, etc. This may be a combination of print/digital campaigns, online/in person collaborations, website updates, events, openings, workshops, etc.

Project Manager

The project Manager oversees the projects) of the studio and keeps track of the timeline, tasks, roles, and responsibilities of the creatives. They are in charge of creating timelines, assigning tasks, checking in on progress of projects, and managing a budget when appropriate. They are also the first point of content with the current and potential client and are in charge of negotiation with clients and helping communicate between the creative team and client representative. They may also make executive decisions about creative strategy, graphics, etc.

Junior Designer

The junior designers are in charge of the graphic work done for the client. They take lead from the project manager, lead designer, and creative directors to create digital assets, visual identities, posters, moving graphics, menus, signage, etc for the client and studio.

Social Media Manager

The Social Media Manager is in charge of maintaining and growing the social media accounts of the studio. This includes strategies of engagement, content, visibility, utilizing social media, and communication. They will work closely with the Marketing Specialist to maintain a consistent and contemporary brand and voice of the studio and work closely with the designers to create graphics for social media. The studio’s primary platform is currently instagram, but the manager may pitch other ideas/platforms to the creative directors.
